What is organic brewing?

At vandeStreek bier, we believe that brewing delicious beer goes hand in hand with doing a little good for the planet. That's why all our classics are 100% organic. But what exactly does organic brewing entail? What's involved, why do we choose it, and how does it taste in your glass?
In this blog, we'll dive into the world of organic brewing and explain why we are fully committed to it.
What is organic brewing?
Organic brewing means: making beer exclusively with ingredients that are organically grown and certified. Think of barley, wheat, hops, and even yeast. All without artificial fertilizers, chemical pesticides, or genetic modification. But it goes beyond just the ingredients.
To truly call your beer organic, the entire process must meet strict requirements for sustainability, transparency, and environmental impact. In the Netherlands, Skal Biocontrole supervises this. They check whether a brewer adheres to the rules and whether you are indeed allowed to use the designation 'organic' on your label.
Why do we choose organic?
Not because we have to. But because we can. And because we find it important.
For us, organic brewing is a logical step in making everything we do more sustainable. We not only pay attention to what goes into the beer but also to how we manage water use, energy, waste streams, and transport.
And of course: as brewers, we want our beer to taste fantastic. Fortunately, these two go together perfectly. Our organic beers are at least as flavorful, distinctive, and drinkable as you've come to expect from us.
Our organic classics
These beers are all 100% organic:
Broeders a refreshing blonde beer.
Turf ’n Surf a creamy triple with a hint of smoke and sea salt.
Witzige Weizen full, creamy weizen with a twist.
Bio Pilsener refreshing pilsner, crystal clear and gluten-free
Whether you like refreshing blonde, drinkable pils, or something else: you'll find it in our organic beers.

What does organic brewing taste like?
Organic refers to how beer is made, not necessarily how it tastes. The most important thing for us is that taste is never secondary to the organic process. At vandeStreek, organic means: an honestly brewed beer, without compromising on taste.
Want to know everything about what organic beer is? You can read about it in this blog.
Not all our beer is Organic, because the supply chain for the best aromatic hops cannot be organically certified. For our IPAs, it is important that hops are harvested at the right moment, when the aroma is just right. Organic hops are harvested too early to keep the chain 100% organically closed. It's great that beer with organic hops is completely free of pesticides. However, the aromas are then not yet sufficiently developed for our hoppy beers.
Curious? You can find our organic beers in our webshop, in hospitality venues, or at your favorite liquor store. Cheers, to good beer with a good story.
