What is a beer collab?

Have you ever seen the term 'collab' or 'collaboration brew' on the beer shelf at your liquor store or local brewery and wondered what it means? No worries, you're not alone! This term is becoming increasingly popular in the world of craft beer. But what exactly does a beer collab entail?

A beer collab is a collaboration between different breweries or between a brewery and another company. This collaboration often leads to unique and innovative beers. For example, think of a collaboration between a brewery and a coffee roaster to create a delicious coffee beer, or a collaboration with chocolate makers for a beer with a rich chocolate flavor.

Such a beer can therefore be of any style, from IPA to Non-Alcoholic and from Fruit Beer to a crossover between styles.

We love these collaborations! For example, the first Beer Geeks Beat ALS – Body & Soul was hosted and spearheaded by us, and we have brewed many collaboration brews in recent years.

Why a Beer Collab?

During a collab brew, the brewers learn from each other, get a glimpse into each other's practices, and, importantly, it's usually a lot of fun too. For example, we barbecued with the guys from Kompaan, invited more than 50 breweries for the very first Beer Geeks Beat ALS collab for charity, shared great moments with Stone Brewing in Yakima, and had the Eleven team clean our lauter tun.

Recent and Future Collabs

This year, we are proud to participate in the CRAFT mega collabs, where we brewed a beer with Rock City, Gooische bierbrouwerij and Walhalla at Poesiat en Kater. An exciting collab is also coming up with Dois Corvos and La Pirata – a Mosaic Mango Sour!
