Fresh Hop is the future

At vandeStreek Bier, we know what the future holds: Fresh Hop Beer! Brewed with wet hops, straight from the field into the kettle. This gives the beer a unique Fresh Hop experience.

Fresh Hop Festival 2025

On October 18, we organized the second Fresh Hop Festival in the Netherlands: 38 beers from 27 different brewers, all brewed with fresh hops! The hops came from Brabant all the way to Veenhuizen, and there were even hops from Hallertau, Germany. Harvested in the morning, in the tank in the evening, for a truly fresh hop experience.

It doesn't get any fresher than this

Some time ago, Dennis Hendriks visited our hop garden in Stadstuin de Klopvaart, just before we started harvesting. In the Mitra podcast episode, you can learn all about Fresh Hop beers: how they are made and what the fresh hops do. You can now find our Fresh Hop range for this year in Mitra stores across the country: a Fresh Hop Bock with Goldings from Belgium, a Fresh Hop East Coast IPA with Tango, and a Fresh Hop West Coast IPA with Centennial from Brabant.

The new seasonal beer

In our opinion, Fresh Hop is the new seasonal beer. Take our Fresh Hop Bock, for example: a traditional bock beer with a Fresh Hop twist. While bock beer often appears on shelves from summer onwards, Fresh Hop beer can only be brewed once a year. A new seasonal tradition as far as we're concerned!

The future

Innovations are also happening within Fresh Hop. Thanks to new technology from Yakima Chief Hops and Crosby Hops, fresh hops can be used all year round. The hops are cryogenically frozen immediately after harvest, preserving their intense aromas and oils, and can be processed into convenient concentrated pellets. With Cryo Fresh, you can brew with the taste and smell of freshly harvested hops all year round. 

Currently, this is not yet available in the Netherlands, but who knows, maybe next year!
